Understanding the Kyanite Facets

Understanding Momentum

Knowing what you need to do and being able to start it are not always the same thing.

Kyanite works across six interconnected facets: Stability, Clarity, Organisation, Momentum, Accountability and Capacity. They are not six separate services or a sequence to complete. They are different areas we may draw on depending on what is happening for you and what would be useful now.

What Momentum means at Kyanite

Momentum is about understanding what is preventing movement and making the start easier.

A task may be important, perfectly achievable and still remain untouched.

That does not automatically mean someone is lazy, unmotivated or does not care.

Sometimes there is friction between intention and action that needs understanding before pushing harder will help.

You might recognise a need for Momentum when…

  • Something important keeps being put off.
  • A task has become heavier the longer it has remained undone.
  • You can do something once urgency becomes extreme but struggle to start earlier.
  • The first step is unclear.
  • You are worried about what doing the task might set in motion.
  • A task feels so large that starting any part of it feels difficult.
  • You lost momentum after an interruption and cannot seem to get back in.

What can stop Momentum

The barrier may be size, ambiguity, boredom, low energy, too many choices or not knowing where to begin.

It may also be emotional.

Sending an email can mean getting a response. Making a decision can mean closing off another option. Submitting work can mean somebody judging it.

Sometimes the task itself is only half of what feels difficult.

What we might work on

  • identifying the specific barrier
  • separating the task from what might happen afterwards
  • reducing something to a first visible action
  • removing unnecessary decisions or setup
  • creating a clear way into the task
  • using structure, another person or an appropriate deadline where useful
  • building from movement rather than immediately raising expectations

What Momentum is not

Momentum is not relentless motivation.

It is not hustle.

And it is not doing more for the sake of doing more.

It is making it easier to begin and continue what actually matters.

How Momentum connects with the other facets

Clarity may reveal why something is stuck.

Organisation can reduce the friction around starting.

Stability may be needed when immediate pressure is consuming all available attention.

Accountability can help maintain movement after the start.

And realistic Capacity matters because momentum built on unsustainable effort rarely lasts.

You don’t have to choose a facet.

These pages are here to help you understand the Kyanite approach — not to give you another decision to make before asking for support.

You may recognise one facet strongly, several at once or different ones at different times.

You don’t need to decide which facet you need before asking for support. Start with what is happening. We’ll work that out together.
