The Six Areas

The six areas,
at senior level.

Kyanite works across six connected areas: Stability, Clarity, Organisation, Momentum, Accountability and Capacity. They are not stages, scores or a programme to complete. They are different areas we may draw on, depending on what is actually happening.

At senior level, the pressure rarely sits neatly in one place. What looks like a workload problem may be a clarity problem. What feels like a confidence problem may be a capacity problem. You do not need to work out which area applies before we talk.

Stability

Pause. Steady. Breathe.

Stability is about creating enough steadiness to think clearly again. When pressure has been building for a long time, everything can feel urgent and reactive. Before good decisions are possible, there often needs to be enough ground underneath you to stand on.

You might notice:

  • Every day feels like firefighting, with no space to step back.
  • Small setbacks land harder than they used to.
  • You are reacting to the day rather than leading it.

The work might involve:

  • Naming what is creating the most instability right now
  • Finding the few things that would make the next few weeks feel steadier
  • Creating some protected space to think, not just respond

Clarity

See. Understand. Decide.

Clarity is about seeing the situation clearly enough to decide what matters. Senior roles bring a constant flow of decisions, opinions and expectations. When too much is competing for your attention, it can become hard to tell what is important and what is simply loud.

You might notice:

  • You keep returning to the same decision without resolving it.
  • Everything feels like a priority, so nothing feels like progress.
  • Other people’s expectations are making it harder to hear your own judgement.

The work might involve:

  • Separating facts, assumptions, pressures and expectations
  • Identifying which decisions need making now, and which do not
  • Thinking through options before a major decision about work, role or direction

Organisation

Simplify. Structure. Sustain.

Organisation is about structure that fits the role you are in now. Systems, routines and habits that worked at one level of responsibility often stop working at the next. The result is not a lack of ability, but a growing amount of effort spent just keeping things moving.

You might notice:

  • Your inbox, diary or task list has become a source of pressure in itself.
  • You are holding too much in your head because there is nowhere reliable to put it.
  • The way you work no longer matches what the role now asks of you.

The work might involve:

  • Simplifying how work, decisions and information reach you
  • Building practical structure around an overwhelming workload
  • Working alongside you to simplify, organise and put practical systems in place — not simply suggesting what you should do.

Momentum

Start. Move. Forward.

Momentum is about understanding what is preventing movement, and making the next step easier to take. Sometimes the things that matter most are the ones that keep being postponed: the difficult conversation, the strategic piece of work, the decision that has been open for months.

You might notice:

  • Important work keeps slipping behind urgent work.
  • There is something you have been avoiding, and it is taking up more space the longer it waits.
  • You know what needs to happen, but it is not happening.

The work might involve:

  • Understanding what is actually stopping progress
  • Breaking a stuck piece of work into a first, manageable step
  • Tackling the thing you have been putting off, with someone alongside you

Accountability

Plan. Act. Achieve.

Accountability is about having someone in your corner to help turn intention into action. Senior leaders are often accountable to everyone except themselves. A private, independent check-in can help keep the right things moving, without judgement and without adding to the pressure.

You might notice:

  • Commitments you make to yourself are the first to give way.
  • You have no one to think out loud with who is outside the situation.
  • Good intentions from the last difficult period did not stick.

The work might involve:

  • Agreeing a small number of commitments that genuinely matter
  • Regular, honest check-ins to help keep them moving
  • Adjusting the plan when things change, rather than abandoning it

Capacity

Protect. Grow. Sustain.

Capacity is about what you can sustainably carry, not what you think you should fit in. Capable people rarely lose the ability to do their job. What changes is how much it takes out of them to keep doing it, and how little is left over afterwards.

You might notice:

  • You are still delivering, but at an increasing personal cost.
  • Recovery takes longer, and there is less of you left for life outside work.
  • You are the escalation point that everything eventually comes back to.

The work might involve:

  • Mapping where your time, attention and energy are actually going
  • Changing the demands, systems and boundaries that keep the pressure in place
  • Building ways to notice and respond earlier, so the pattern does not quietly return

You don’t need to choose an area.

Most senior leaders recognise more than one. Start with what is happening, and we will work out together where it makes sense to begin.

Independent, non-clinical. Your employer does not need to refer you.
